Avid Media Composer is non-linear editing system which allows us for film editing, uncompressed standard definition (SD) video and high definition (HD) editing and finishing. There are some occasions that you want to import Avid projects to After Effects for further editing. However, the problem is that you'll find it a painful experience to work the Avid DNxHD.MXF files with After Effects. Now let's take a look at one common issue quoted from the current forum.

"Hello, I have some DNxHD files with a .mxf extension on them which I would like to bring into After Effects. I've never done this before. I also notice that the audio left and right are separate channels. But I don't even care about the audio, I just want to bring in the video. How would you do this? Thanks for your help!"

In general, After Effects does support mxf import or export, but has strict requirements only limited to P2 and XDCAM, and obviously DNxHD codec is excluded. And the easiest way to get this DNxHD MXF media imported into After Effects CC/CS6 is to encode DNxHD MXF to a Quicktime basic codec. In AE, you can render DNxHD to Quicktime container directly. However, it will be long-time duration for encoding the DNxHD MXF to Quicktime.

Luckily, there's an easier and quicker way to import Avid DNxHD .mxf files into After Effects - transcode DNxHD. mxf to MPEG-2, the optimal video format when working with all Adobe products. In order to fulfill this task perfectly, I'd like to highly recommend Brorsoft MXF Video Converter for Mac, which enables you easily convert DNxHD .mxf to MPEG-2 for editing smoothly in After Effects as well as other famous codecs like Apple ProRes, Apple Intermediate Codec, DNxHD, etc to seamlessly fit for FCP, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer. iMovie and more NLE systems.
